American actor PATRICK DEMPSEY is turned on by women who don't wear underwear because he believes silky thongs mean a woman is promiscuous.

The GREY'S ANATOMY star admits he's not particularly impressed with elaborate lingerie, preferring instead to find nothing at all under ladies' clothing.

He says, "Lingerie can be too staged, like you're trying too hard. And anything obvious is not sexy. I like fine clothes with no underwear underneath, so you can see the outline.

"Then you eventually get to naked, which is beautiful."
